She said i swam lakes in your eyes Nights shattered by ghost-wise organs, emptied Liminal spirit-break, soft comfort of rabbit books 12,000 thoughts disappear (O, the spectre…) but the vaguest circle in time loosens Still Feel the wheels moving We know they will go on perpetually (O, respect her when…)

about

Steeped in the languid hiss of tape-borne electronics, Fire behind my house is a folk album in the tradition of White Winged Moth, Lovely Midget and Inca Ore. Recorded in an Echo Park apartment, the album is a diaristic scrapbook of sound images, a record of glowing moments spent alone, aural designs for changing emotional states and fixing a steady flow of life-images into sound. This is music of inverted notation: reading music through landscapes of feeling to hear the sounds of intense personal transformation – the inevitability of personal history that forms the basis of all folk traditions. Slow motion guitars explode in a July downpour and tremoloed voices ring across billowing expanses of electronic unease. Dissonant strings are haloed in a warm void of tape that envelops everything like the soft smoke of Los Angeles night. Deep analog throb becomes icy chimes; vocals hover like something in the corner of the eye, tremulous, at the edge of visibility. One of the pieces, Muddy Mirror Hum, prepares the listener for the world of Fire behind my house. A place where clouds of memory tremble and hum, muffled as if viewed through a window. Where the four walls of your room oscillate between a warm blanket and the creeping dread of embers diffusing. Where the transformations of our lives, moment by moment, are examined in solitude and are found to be as beautiful as the falling summer rain.
